Fuji Electric to set up smart grid in Vijayawada
Hyderabad, Feb 6 (INN): Following Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's visit to Japan in November, Fuji Electric officials on Friday met the Chief Minister about setting up Smart Grid.
The company officials informed the Chief Minister that the smart grid will be set up in Vijayawada on pilot basis. As part of the cooperation between Japan and government of Andhra Pradesh, Fuji Electric has conducted a feasibility study for a smart grid project and will submit the report soon.
Stating that their smart grid technology can support the new capital, Fuji Electric officials informed the CM that the smart grid monitors the consumption of energy and forecasts the demand for the next 24 hours to make energy management efficient.
In gated communities, sensors can be installed on buildings which will forecast energy requirement and give insights into energy consumption patterns, they explained.
The smart grid allows one to share energy with other grids if the demand is less from one grid and more from the others.
The Chief Minister also asked the delegates to install smart meters and suggest technologies which will bring down the transmission and commercial losses from the current 12.9% to 6%.
Explaining that energy efficiency and energy saving is one of the government's focus areas, the Chief Minister has also asked them to identify the possibilities of collaboration in energy-related technology areas such as renewable energy (wind, solar, biomass, etc.).
The Chief Minister appreciated Fuji Electric for developing Kitakyushu as Japan's first eco-town project. He asked the company officials to explore possibility of introducing dynamic and cost-effective pricing system for power. He also asked them to study the feasibility of introducing remote-controlled power stations.
Fuji Electric officials informed the Chief Minister that they would be visiting Andhra Pradesh again with New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) officials in March.
