Finish road works within a year: Naidu Hyderabad, Feb 6 (INN): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday directed officials to finish works related to 15,000kms of national highways including single-lane, double-lane and four-lane roads within a year.
In a meeting with R&B and NHAI officials at Secretariat today, he said that the Madhya Pradesh model of laying roads could be implemented in the state. He added that the roads could be built in BOT, PPP and EPC models.
He ordered officials to complete the construction of Kurnool-Guntur national highway and Anantapur-Tadipatri link road immediately. He told officials to ensure that gangs and rings involved in road contracts are eliminated. 'The construction or repairs of all roads in the state should happen under the purview of the R&B department only,' he added.
Stating that officials should conduct a recce of accident-prone areas, he said that sharp turns or any bumps/impediments on the roads should be eliminated to make them safer. He ordered for leveling of beams on all the roads in the state.
Stating that the national highways in the state have been laid unscientifically, he directed NHAI officials to take long-term steps to lay quality roads.
Transport minister Siddha Raghava Rao informed the Chief Minister that works will be taken up immediately as the state government has purchased 5 new machines for leveling of roads.
