Regular eye check-ups crucial in preventing glaucoma
Visakhapatnam: Sankar Foundation has been observing Glaucoma Week from March 8'14, 2026, at the hospital. They held a series of awareness programs to discuss glaucoma's causes, prevention, and impact.

As a part of it a rally was organised on Monday. The rally started from the main hospital in Naidutota and ended at Vepagunta Junction, then returned. This rally aimed to raise awareness about glaucoma, often called the 'silent thief of sight.'
A. Krishna Kumar, Managing Trustee of SankarFoundation, flagged off the rally. Dr. T. Raveendra, Director of CQI & Research and Head of the Glaucoma Department, led it. Dr Manjuvalli, Dr Kavita Devi, Dr Keerthana, Dt Ditsha Dutta, Dr Revathi, DNBs, Fellows, employees, and students all participated. This showed how important community involvement is in spreading awareness.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Raveendra explained that glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that can permanently damage the optic nerve. This can lead to vision loss and, in severe cases, blindness. He stressed that early detection is key to managing glaucoma effectively. He also mentioned that advances in diagnostic technology have improved the accuracy and reliability of glaucoma identification. This allows for timely intervention and better patient outcomes, he added
Sankar Foundation thanked the Police Department for their smooth handling of the rally.
