Over 1 lakh staff to be deployed for GHMC elections


 
Hyderabad, Dec 28 (INN): Telangana State Election Commissioner V. Nagi Reddy on Monday said that the over one lakh government officials, including police personnel, would be deployed for the conduct of GHMC elections in a free and fair manner.

The SEC, along with GHMC Commissioner and Special Officer B. Janardhan Reddy, held an interaction with General and Expenditure Observers today. Speaking to media persons later, Nagi Reddy informed that around 80,000 government employees and around 26,000 police officials would be deployed for the conduct of GHMC Elections.

Nagi Reddy said that efforts would be made to increase the polling percentage in the GHMC limits by taking up awareness campaigns in association with various organizations and Residential Welfare Associations. He also appealed to the citizens to cast their vote.

The State Election Commissioner appealed all the P.Os / APOs to attend the training classes immediately failing which severe action would be initiated as per State Election Commission rules. He said one General observer and one Expenditure observer have been appointed for each Division. From the last three months, the officials have taken up various processes of election like delimitation of wards, Electoral rolls, identifying polling stations etc.,

Nagi Reddy said that after publication of notification on reservation of ward by the State Government, a notification would be issued for the conduct of GHMC elections. He said that the entire election process would be completed by 31st January.

The GHMC Commissioner said that so far the GHMC has verified 391,369 claims out which 290,942 have been processed and approved and remaining 46,612 have been rejected and still 54,365 claims have to be processed. The claims and enumeration will be done till before one week of announcement of GHMC election notification.

Additional Commissioner (Elections) Surendra Mohan, SEC Secretary Ashok, Zonal Commissioners and senior officials of GHMC have participated in the meeting.
