Kavitha questions ED and BJP

Hyderabad, March 9 (INN): BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha, the founder of Bharat Jagruthi claimed that her proposed hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on March 10 demanding the Women's Reservation Bill would be a huge success.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Kavitha said that representatives of 18 political parties and women's organizations would be joining Friday's protest. While over 500 people would go on hunger strike, over 6,000 confirmed to attend in support of the Women's Reservation Bill. She said that the Women's Reservation Bill has been pending for 27 years since its introduction in 1996. She thanked UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for their efforts to introduce and pass the bill.

Kavitha criticized the BJP for not showing any intent to make the bill a reality, despite having a clear majority in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. She called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Draupadi Murmu to make the Women's Reservation Bill a reality with 33% reservation.

During her address, Kavitha also talked about the recent notices from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Delhi Police. She questioned why the ED chose to question her just a day before her planned protest, and why they denied her the right to comply with the questioning from her home. Kavitha stressed the importance of ensuring that women can comply with such investigations at any level, including via video calls and virtually.

Kavitha alleged that Telangana was being targeted by the BJP's "Modi se pehle ED" agenda. She pointed out that Telangana has been under constant scrutiny by the central government since June 2020, with over 100 CBI raids, 200 ED raids, and more than 500 Income Tax raids. She criticized the BJP's attempts to divert attention from real issues by highlighting the ED visits.
