Andhra University a beacon of higher learning: Governor Abdul Nazeer

Visakhapatnam: Andhra University is considered a beacon of higher learning, a treasure trove of knowledge, and has rightfully earned its place as one of India's oldest and most distinguished Universities, Andhra Pradesh Governor and Chancellor of Andhra University Abdul Nazeer said.
Delivering convocation address at the 91st and 92nd Convocation of the Andhra University in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday the Governor said that it was a momentous occasion for the students who received their degrees in the convocation during the centenary year of the prestigious University.

The Governor said Andhra University owes its inception to the visionary minds of its founders, and each of them contributed their unique brilliance to shape its destiny including Sir C.R. Reddy, an epitome of educational wisdom, who laid the foundation, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the second President of India, who continued this legacy and Dr. V.S. Krishna, the first Chairman of the University Grants Commission, who further solidified its prominence. He said that these pioneers sowed the seeds which blossomed into a garden of knowledge, enriching the lives of countless students who walked through its hallowed portals.

He further said that the legacy of academic excellence of Andhra University is punctuated by the contributions of distinguished scholars like Dr. T.R. Seshadri, Dr. S. Bhagavantam, Prof. Hiren Mukherjee, Prof. K. Sachhitananda Murthy, Prof. Humayan Kabir, Dr. V.K.R.V. Rao and many other educationists, who set high standards of teaching and research. He also said that the influence of renowned alumni like Nobel Laureate and Physicist Sir C.V. Raman and eminent Statistician Prof. C.R. Rao, continues to resonate through the corridors of learning, inspiring future generations.

The Governor highlighted the university's achievements over the past century, saying that it has been a symbol of excellence and progress.

The Governor presented doctoral awards to Dr. Purnachandra Rao Saggurti, Vice Chairman of Bank of America, and Dr. Tallavajjala Patanjali Sastry, a recipient of the Central Sahitya Akademi Award.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Purnachandra Rao Saggurti said that India is emerging as a major economic power in the world and is likely to become the third-largest economy in the coming years. He emphasized the importance of skill development and encouraged students to take advantage of the opportunities available in the global economy.

Andhra University Vice-Chancellor G.P. Rajasekhar expressed his vision for the university, saying that it should strive to achieve the sustainable development goals and maintain its reputation as a premier institution of higher learning.

District collector M.N. Harendira Prasad, joint collector Gobilli Vidhya Dhari, former Vice-Chancellors, and other dignitaries were present.
