Naidu asks President to halt split HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu urged President Pranab Mukherjee to intervene in the state bifurcation issue and direct the Centre to put the T-process on hold till an amicable solution is arrived.
Speaking to reporters after meeting the President at Rashtrapati Nilayam at Bollaram, Naidu said he had asked Pranab Mukherjee to invite all stakeholders and discuss the issues in detail before proceeding with division.
He said the President responded positively and assured him that he would look into the matter. Naidu said he reminded the President that as the Head of the State it was his responsibility to address the concerns of the citizens and do justice.
He brought to the notice of the President that most of the provisions in the AP State Reorganisation Bill are inconsistent and unconstitutional.
He stated that this undemocratic act, if allowed, amounts misuse of power by the Centre for political gain and will damage the federal spirit of the Constitution.
He further said the haste shown by the Union government in drafting the Bill without taking the stakeholders into confidence is setting a dangerous precedent.
It is bound to create permanent problems between the two regions and hatred between people if the bill is passed in its present form, he pointed out.
'The powers under Article 3 and 4 are vested with the President so that the Centre does not misuse them. The President should consider this before taking a deccision,' he said.
He said that the state should be divided only after a resolution was passed in the state Assembly, he said and expressed the hope that the President would look into the issue and do justice.
