BJP opposes port at Dugarajapatnam NELLORE: Alleging that the proposal to establish a port at Dugarajapatnam in Vakadu mandal in the district was a conspiracy hatched by some politicians, BJP state official spokesperson Karnati Anjanaeya Reddy on Thursday sought to know why the Centre had decided to establish the port despite objections raised by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) over pollution problem, likely disappearance of sea life and more importantly the threat from terror elements.
Speaking to newsmen here, the BJP leader recalled that several persons who had tried to gain entry into SHAR were arrested earlier and said the setting up of a port at Dugarajapatnam might give scope for possible terror elements to gain entry into the port and pose a threat to the ISRO scientific community.
He said that it would not only hit the livelihood of 10,000 families but also lead to disappearance of different kinds of sea creatures. He said that the BJP was not against development.
'We welcome the establishment of Krishanapatnam port but in the interest of safety and security of the ISRO, we object to the Centre's decision to set up a port at Durgarajapatnam,' he clarified.
