TDP men of two factions clash at NTR Bhavan HYDERABAD: The simmering rivalry between two groups in the TDP in Penamaluru Assembly constituency in Krishna district once again came to the fore with both groups attacking each other at NTR Bhavan here on Thursday.
The groups, one led by former MLC YVB Rajender Prasad and the other by mandal president Bode Prasad, were summoned by party chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu to the party office to sort out the differences. However, they clashed again and even indulged in physically attack.
It all started when the names of Bode Prasad's supporters did not figure in the constituency coordination committee. Irked by this, they started including their names in the list by force.
Rajender Prasad's supporters, who were also present in large numbers, objected to it and started abusing their rivals. Soon they started pushing each other and at one stage some of them exchanged blows.
The situation came under control after the intervention of security personnel present at NTR Bhavan, and party workers. Both the leaders prevented mediapersons from covering the clash, which lasted for about 20 minutes.
Latter, speaking to reporters, Bode Prasad said his rivals have removed his supporters' names from the constituency coordination committee list and included theirs.
'I have brought all this into the notice of the party chief and would continue my struggle in the district against the injustice being done to me,' he said.
After hearing about the incident, Chandrababu Naidu summoned both the leaders to his residence and advised them to sort out their differences in the interest of the party.
The power struggle between Rajendra Prasad and Bode Prasad began soon after the murder of Chalasani Venkateswara Rao (Pandu), a prominent TDP leader from Krishna district, in September 2010.
Chalasani had contested unsuccessfully against secondary education minister K Parthasarathy in 2009 from Penamaluru constituency. After Chalasani's death, both the groups started laying claim to constituency, leading to clashes.
Naidu, during his padayatra, tried to sort out the differences between them. Even Rajya Sabha member Y Sujana Chowdary tried to mediate between the groups, but without success.
