Couple loses children after thanking god for boy child CHENNAI: A one-year-old child and an 18-year-old boy were killed near Tirutani when a car rammed a lorry parked on the roadside in the wee hours of Friday.
Police said six members of a family, residing at Kilkattalai in Chennai, were returning after visiting Tirupati, when the car driven by Balaji hit the lorry at Kasinathapuram junction at around 1 am.
'The car was moving at a high speed and Balaji failed to notice the lorry parked on the side of the road. Since it was a high-speed collision, the car was badly damaged and the passengers suffered severe injuries,' a police officer in Tirutani said.
The passersby alerted the 108 ambulance. Balaji's one-year-old son Nanda Kumar died on the spot and other five family members were taken to Tirutani government hospital.
Balaji's adopted son Vignesh (18), a first year college student, succumbed to the injuries in the hospital. Other injured persons are Balaji's wife Nagamani and his parents Ramachari and Mano Ranjitham.
All four family members were shifted to a private hospital in Porur and are undergoing treatment.
Police said Balaji and Nagamani had adopted Vignesh since the couple did not have a child for many years after their marriage. After birth of Nanda Kumar, the couple went to Tirupati for pilgrimage. Tragically, the couple have lost both their children in the accident.
