Curbs on Papikondalu boat tourism
Hyderabad: Following a spate of accidents due to heavy river cruise activities taken up for Papikondalu in Khamam district, the State government has constituted `Godavari Regulatory Authority' to regulate the movement of boats and vessels in the river Godavari.
To a query posed by Congress MLA R Surya Prakash Rao in the Assembly, Minister for Tourism Vatti Vasant Kumar said that incidents of accidents of vessels and mechanised boats in Godavari were brought to the notice of the government in which the death of some pilgrims and tourists was also reported.
'Keeping in mind the urgent need to curb the accidents, the Regulatory Authority has been constituted under the district collectors of East Godavari, West Godavari and Khammam. Similar authorities would also be set up in other districts when river cruising would be taken up,'' he explained.
