Ashok Babu elected as APNGOs' President HYDERABAD: Incumbent president P Ashok Babu's panel won with a thumping majority in the APNGOs elections held on Sunday. Rival candidate Basheer's panel lost the election. Both Ashok Babu and N Chandrasekhar Reddy were elected president and general secretary respectively again with huge margins.
The Samaikyandhra movement led by Ashok Babu and also the recent announcement of 27 percent interim relief (IR) for state government employees helped Ashok Babu to romp home comfortably.
Several employees felt Ashok Babu achieved the highest percentage of IR for them. Though there were discontentment over the leadership of Ashok Babu on leading the Samikaynadhra movement and focusing on employees' issues, the announcement of IR just before the elections came as shot in the arm for him.
Following the victory, Ashok Babu and his team declared that they would intensify the Samaikyandhra movement and announce future course of action very soon.
'We will organise a meeting with all political parties and chalk out an action plan to be taken up from January 16 to 23, where the third round of Assembly session will take place,' Ashok Babu said.
Ashok Babu said as people celebrate Sankranthi in a big way in Seemandhra, the movement would be intensified after January 15. He demanded that all political parties should oppose the Telangana Bill in the Assembly.
The T-Bill should be rejected in the Assembly; then national parties too would respect the opinion of the AP Assembly when the Bill is debated in Parliament.
He said fate of MPs and Union ministers, who did not tender their resignations, would be sealed. People would support those who had resigned for the sake of United AP, he added.
He said people would also support the parties which supported united AP, in the next elections. Asked about some political parties trying to create a rift among APNGOs, Ashok Babu said the APNGOs always worked without any political affiliation or involvement.
