Simhachalam temple all set to sell prime lands VISAKHAPATNAM: Sri Varahalakshmi Nrusimha Swami Devasthanam of Simhachalam has decided to auction its prime lands by developing the layout and seeking the help of the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA). Officials of the Devasthanam and VUDA have already held primary discussions recently to develop some layouts located at various places.
The Simhachalam Devasthanam has over 11,000 acres of lands located in the five villages of Adavivaram, Vepagunta, Cheemalapalli, Purushottampuram and Venkatapuram, which have already been merged into GVMC limits.
There is huge potential for the lands in the five villages. However, with many court cases related to these lands still pending and the state government not having announced its decision on the issue yet, all land transactions have been banned in the Stamps and Registration Department in the five villages.
Of the lot, the Devasthanam has complete possession of about 2,500 acres, and has now decided to sell it through auction. Sources at the Simhachalam Devasthanam also said that the government has given permission to commercialise the lands to boost the finances of the Devasthanam.
Simhachalam Devasthanam and VUDA will jointly take up the projects, a senior official of the Devasthanam said. The Devasthanam has decided to develop layouts benefiting low, middle and higher income groups, which will be carried out by VUDA.
In the first stage, three layouts will be developed near Gosala, Vepagunta and Adavivaram. The Devasthanam has already identified 6 to 10 acres of lands in the areas for layouts. As the locations are best suited for residential purposes owing to the pollution-free environment nestled in the cool, green hills, the Devasthanam is expecting high revenue from the layouts.
