Rape victim brought to city from Mumbai Hyderabad: In a joint operation with the Mumbai police, the city police launched a hunt for three youths allegedly involved in the gang-rape of the Mumbai-based dancer.
A special team of the Mumbai police arrived in the city along with the victim by Hussain Sagar Express on Friday. Four local teams have been pressed into service to assist the Mumbai counterparts.
'We have adequate information about the accused and we have almost zeroed in on them,' said G Pala Raju, DCP, CCS. Police are working on the surveillance footages captured on December 31 at the Hyderabad Airport as well as footages obtained from the ATMs where from the money was withdrawn from the victim's account by using her debit card.
'We are also tracking the cell phone propagation map at various places in the geographical area and trying to ascertain tower locations as circumstantial evidence,' said the DCP.
According to sources, the 26-year-old dancer was unable to identify the house where the ghastly incident occurred on the New Year's Eve.
'Following the Commissioner's guidelines, we started the probe based on the recorded statement of the victim. Ahmed Ali, the event organiser who organised events in the past with the victim, remains at large. Since Ali worked with the victim in the past, the dancer did not have any qualms offering him a 25 per cent of her remuneration.
A manhunt has been launched to arrest all the three accused,' said DCP of Hyderabad Central Crime Station, G Pala Raju.
