Kiran to skip AICC meeting on Jan 17
HYDERABAD: At a time when speculations are rife that chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy launching a new political party, Kiran Reddy is contemplating skipping the crucial AICC meeting slated for Jan 17, ostensibly to announce the party's vice-president Rahul Gandhi as the party's prime ministerial candidate for the ensuing general polls.
When some of his Seemandhra peers met him here, Kiran Reddy reportedly told them that he is planning to skip the key AICC meet as his pleas to keep the state united were ignored by his Delhi bosses.
According to a close aide of Kiran Reddy, the chief minister had almost decided to give a miss to the AICC convention citing Assembly session as the reason.
'As the state Assembly will reassemble on Jan 17 after Sankranti recess, the chief minister wants to be present in the Assembly instead of appearing at the Rahul Gandhi's anointment,' said the source.
Some of the state Congress leaders say that if Kiran Reddy chooses to stay away from the AICC meeting, it indicates that the gulf between him and his party high command is further widening.
In fact, Kiran Reddy, during his recent visit to Delhi to take part in the chief ministers' conference, presided over by the AICC vice-president, created a furore by not taking part in the press conference, addressed by Rahul.
Interestingly, Kiran Reddy's close aide and minister Pithani Satyanarayana said his boss might resign from his post in February in support of Samaikyandhra. 'The chief minister is planning to quit his post in protest against the proposed bifurcation of the state,' he said.
Meanwhile, Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal, who is considered as another trusted lieutenant of Kiran Reddy, has almost decided to embarrass his party leadership during the AICC meeting by trying to move a non-official resolution in that meeting seeking revoking of the CWC decision to form Telangana state.
Rajagopal had submitted the non-official resolution to the AICC general secretary Janardhan Dwivedi on Jan 1 seeking party's permission to move the same at the AICC convention.
However, the resolution, which has been submitted under Article 13(B), sub-clause (E) of the Constitution of the AICC, could well be rejected by the party high command as the party leadership has full powers on such issues.
