Telangana first, TRS merger next: Digvijay HYDERABAD: Exuding confidence that Telangana state would be formed before the next general elections, AP Congress affairs incharge Digvijaya Singh on Monday said if necessary a special session of Parliament would be called to pass the AP State Reorganisation Bill, 2013.
Replying to questions from mediapersons in Delhi, Digvijaya Singh said he was quite hopeful of the formation of Telangana state and the party would think of holding talks with the TRS for its merger.
'The draft bill is in the Assembly now. Let every legislator get an opportunity to say what he wants to say on the bill,' he said, but would not commit himself when asked if more time would be given to the Assembly to complete the discussion on the draft bill. 'It is for the President to decide,' Digvijaya Singh said.
Asked for his reaction to the demand for formation of a separate screening Committee for Telangana for selecting candidates for Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, Digvijaya Singh said the party high command would have to take a decision on it.
The demand for a separate screening committee for Telangana has gained strength as the present one has chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and PCC president Botcha Satayanarayana in it, which raised a doubt over T-state formation.
