Seemandhra champion's voice drowns in AICC cacophony
HYDERABAD: The champions of Samaikyandhra, who had sought to move a resolution at the AICC session or at least, stage a protest, did attend the conference in Delhi Friday but did not so much as raise their placards.
The champions in question are three 'rebel' Congress MPs from Seemandhra, Lagadapati Rajagopal, GV Harsha Kumar and Sabbam Hari. They had claimed Thursday that they didn't get an invite for the session.
Except having placards, which read 'Samaikyandhra Mana Vidhanam, Jai Samaikyandhra Mana Ninadam', on the lap, the trio didn't dare disrupt the proceedings of the meeting, attended by party chief Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and other senior leaders.
One of the MPs himself admitted they had to take Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy's help after they were denied entry. Kiran called up Digvijaya Singh in the morning and requested him to ensure that the MPs were allowed.
It is learnt that Digvijaya ensured smooth entry to the MPs only after Kiran assured him on behalf of the MPs that they would behave well. And, behave they did.
In a comedy of sorts, some of their Telangana counterparts such as Mohammed Ali Shabbir and Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy held placards which read, 'Sonia is a Goddess for Telangana people'.
To his credit, Rajagopal sent a slip through a volunteer to AICC general secretary Janardhan Dwivedi requesting him to allow to move a non-official resolution opposing the party's Telangana decision. Dwivedi rejected the request.
The talk in Congress circles is that the three Seemandhra MPs had hoodwinked the media with their claim that they hadn't been invited to the session for seeking to move a resolution.
Giving strength to this argument, rebel MP Vundavalli Arun Kumar said he had received the invitation in the form of an SMS from the AICC headquarters on Jan 15 itself! He termed the claim that Seemandhra MPs hadn't been invited as a lie.
