T Congress urge Prez not to extend deadline
HYDERABAD: Even as Samaikyandhra protagonists are hopeful that the President might consider their plea for extension of the deadline for debating the T-Bill in the State Legislature for a few more days, their Telangana counterparts too have intensified efforts to persuade the head of state not to accept the request of Seemandhra lawmakers.
Ministers and Congress MLAs from Telangana wrote to the President Pranab Mukherjee urging him not to extend the deadline for completion of the discussion on the Telangana Bill in the Assembly.
After holding an informal meeting at the chambers of the Panchayat Raj Minister K Jana Reddy in the Assembly premises, the Congress lawmakers from the region faxed their letter to the President.
In their letter, they contended that if any extension is given, there is the danger of the entire Telangana State creation process might be derailed. The T-Congress leaders also wondered how could Seemandhra leaders request the President to extend the time limit without properly utilising the 42-day time, given to them.
They also urged the head of the state not to compare the process with that of the recently formed three States. Telangana TDP leaders also sent a similar letter to the President. In Delhi, TRS leader and Peddapalli MP G Vivekananda handed over a letter to the President with the same demand.
Seemandhra Congress leaders such as minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao are hopeful that the President might extend the deadline for discussing the T-Bill at least ten to 15 days.
Interestingly, the employees of the Assembly secretariat have been asked not to go on leave till February 7, the day on which Rajya Sabha polls are scheduled to take place.
According to sources, as the government is expecting a positive reply from the Head of the state on Chief Minister's plea for extending the time limit for debating the T-Bill, the Assembly secretariat is making preparations for the extension of the ongoing session.
