Kiran camp to press for voting on T Bill HYDERABAD: Protagonists of Samaikyandhra and Telangana have intensified their efforts to ensure that their choice of decision is taken on the issue of holding voting on the Telangana-Bill in both the Houses of the state legislature after ending the ongoing debate on the bill.
According to sources, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy's camp has decided to press for voting on the Telangana-Bill in both the the Houses of the state Assembly either on January 29 or 30.
Kiran Reddy held meetings with some of his close aides such as minister K Parthasarathi, MP Vundavalli Arun Kumar and party veteran Gade Venkata Reddy in this regard on Friday here and formulated strategies to ensure that voting takes place on the Telangana-Bill in the Assembly. The chief minister's camp is understood to exert pressure on the Speaker to hold voting on the Telangana-Bill quoting Article 189.
As per this strategy, some of the ministers from Seemandhra have begun gathering the signatures of Seemandhra MLAs in support of voting. Meanwhile, even Seemandhra TDP MLAs also decided to pressurise the Speaker to conduct voting on the Telangana-Bill. They have decided to give a notice to the Speaker in this regard on Saturday.
Against this backdrop, Seemandhra TDP MLCs under the leadership of Yanamala Ramakrishnudu on Friday served a notice to the chairman of the Legislative Council A Chakrapani requesting him to allow them to move a resolution, rejecting the Telangana-Bill, in the Upper House.
However, Telangana leaders have decided to counter moves of their Seemandhra counterparts on putting the bill to vote.
'The President has remitted the Telangana-Bill to the state legislature for expression of its views only and not for voting on it. Hence, we will not allow the House to conduct voting on the bill,' said minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah.
Several senior Congress leaders on either side of the regional divide in the state say that voting is unlikely as raising of the very issue is likely to lead to acrimonious scenes in the Assembly and the Council between the MLAs/MLCs of both the regions.
