Tanishq gold heist suspect 'surrenders' to police HYDERABAD: A man walked into the Banjara Hills police station on Sunday and allegedly surrendered stating that he had committed the theft in the Tanishq jewellery showroom at Punjagutta on Saturday. The police, after taking his details are questioning him. They did not confirm the surrender.
According to sources, the man told the police that he had committed the burglary by drilling a hole into the wall with his friends' assistance.
A day after the major theft, police on Sunday ascertained that only 15 kg of gold ornaments including precious stones worth Rs 5.5 crore were stolen, and not 30 kg of ornaments worth Rs 22.5 crore as claimed by the management.
The case was transferred to the Central Crime Station (CCS) which is examining the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of the the store and also the traffic camera footage for any clues. Police also questioned some employees of the store in connection with the theft.
