Samaikya supporters disrupt AAP meet in Vijayawada VIJAYAWADA: The Samaikyandhra supporters disrupted a press conference as well as a public meeting addressed by leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) here Sunday.
AAP organised a public meeting with representatives from 13 Seemandhra districts in the city to announce its plan of action in the region. AAP's state leaders Ramakrishna Raju, Umashakti, Snehalatha, Vijayprakash and Kiran Kumar were addressing the media when all of a sudden a group of Samaikyandhra supporters barged into the Press Club and demanded that AAP support unified Andhra Pradesh.
The sudden protest by Samaikyandhra supporters plunged the meeting into a chaos. However, the AAP leaders regained their composure and made it clear that the state unit of their party had already passed a resolution supporting the formation of Telangana state. They said AAP was in favour of smaller states as it would help decentralise power and provide better governance.
AAP's state co-ordinator Ramakrishna Raju clarified that they would convey the sentiments of Seemandhra people to their party national convenor and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and work to safeguard the interests of the region.
At the meeting held at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram, Samaikyandra student JAC state leader A Kishore Kumar from Vishakapatnam, who was also invited to the meeting, demanded that the AAP leadership clarify its stand on bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
But the leaders of AAP had suggested to him to focus on party activities. When he defied AAP leadership's advice, heated arguments ensued for some time which eventually led to a scuffle.
Later, he came down from the dais following resistance from the AAP activists. Later, the AAP's public meeting resumed and it went on successfully.
