CBI submits report to SC in Dinesh Reddy's assets case HYDERABAD: After conducting a preliminary enquiry into the allegations of disproportionate assets against former director general of police V Dinesh Reddy, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has submitted a status report to the Supreme Court. Hearing on the matter has been posted for February 3.
The Supreme Court had ordered a CBI probe into the allegations that Dinesh Reddy has acquired disproportionate assets in his name and in the names of his family members, following which the CBI enquired into the matter.
On behalf of the CBI, advocate BV Balram Das submitted the report to the Supreme Court in two sealed envelopes recently.
Sources said a CBI team had also visited Hyderabad sometime ago to collect details. As per the directions of the apex court, chief secrtetary PK Mohanty handed over to the CBI copies of sale deeds pertaining to some land transactions.
A two-member bench had directed the chief secretary to provide to the CBI copies of the 542 sale deeds enclosed by IPS officer Umesh Kumar in his complaint to the Centre against Dinesh Reddy.
On November 22, the Supreme Court had dismissed the plea of the former DGP, who urged the court to modify its earlier order directing the CBI to investigate into his alleged disproportionate assets.
He had submitted that he belonged to a landed family and had got into the Indian Police Service (IPS) accidently while studying in Delhi. He had maintained an impeccable record of integrity and built the reputation of being scrupulously honest throughout his career, he said.
