Cong poll prospects zero says Kiran Hyderabad: 'The political prospects for Congress post- bifurcation of AP are zero. The decision will deliver a death blow to the party in a long time to come,' Kiran Reddy said. He, however, said that he had no intention to weaken the Congress.
Asked about reports of his intention to resign as chief minister, he said, 'Resignation is one of the options. I will take a decision at an appropriate time.'
'I want the state to remain united. For this, I will take any decision. Chief minister post or power are not important for me. Party is bigger than individual. But people are bigger than the party. We have to respect their sentiment,' the chief minister said.
He further added that the T-bill was defeated in both state Assembly and Council. 'Hence, the Centre should respect the Assembly's views. If it does not consider the views of the Assembly, why was the bill sent to the AP Assembly. The Centre might have sent it to Karnataka or Tamil Nadu Assemblies,' the chief minister remarked.
He wanted the Centre to respect the decision of the Assembly. The view of the Assembly is paramount, he added. Asked about his recent dharna in Delhi, the chief minister said it was a public defiance, and he highlighted the aspirations of the people of the state by staging the protest. The Chief Minister claimed that nearly 75 to 80 percent of the people in the state are against division of the state.
Asked about floating a new party, Kiran Reddy said around 80 MLAs, MLCs and MPs were supporting him and he would take a decision on the issue only after discussing with them.
He, however, made it clear that he was differing with the Congress high command only on the T-issue; in all other things he is supporting the party. He recalled that in the recent Rajya Sabha elections, he had prevailed upon rebel candidates and ensured their withdrawal.
