Justice Ramana for SC, takes oath on 13th Hyderabad: The newly appointed Supreme Court Judge NV Ramana would assume charge on February 13. President Pranab Mukherjee issued orders appointing the Delhi High Court Chief Justice Ramana as the Judge of the Apex Court on Saturday.
Ramana would have every chance of becoming the Chief Justice of Supreme Court as he retires in August 2022. Ramana is the third Telugu man to make it to the Supreme Court. Koka Subba Rao from the State served as Chief Justice between 1966 and 1967. Justice Chalameshwar is presently serving as Judge in the Apex court.
Justice Ramana functioned as acting Chief Justice of AP High Court between March and May in 2013 before being promoted as Delhi Chief Justice in September in the same year. He was appointed as a permanent Judge of the AP High Court on June 27, 2000.
Born on August 27, 1957, in an agricultural family in Ponnavaram village in Krishna district, Ramana began his career as advocate in February 1983. He practised in the AP High Court, the Supreme Court, Central and AP Administrative Tribunals before elevated as Judge of the High Court.
He also served as Panel Counsel for various government organisations including as additional Standing Counsel for central government and standing counsel for Railways in Central Administrative Tribunal in Hyderabad. Ramana was an expert in Constitutional, Criminal, Services and Inter-State River Laws.
