JP runs into Telangana heat at AP Bhavan HYDERABAD: Lok Satta president Jayaprakash Narayan faced Telangana ire at the AP Bhavan in Delhi on Tuesday. He was confronted by Telangana activists while he was speaking to mediapersons on what should be done to Seemandhra in the event of state bifurcation.
Initially there was no disturbance as he continued explaining what the Lok Satta had recommended to the Centre for allaying the fears of the people of Seemandhra.
However, after about 10 minutes, Telangana Lawyers Joint Action Committee activists and other Telanganites surrounded him and began raising pro-Telangana and anti-Jayaprakash Narayan slogans.
The policemen who were present in full strength there tried to ward off the T-activists when some of them advanced towards JP demanding that he should spell out his stand on Telangana.
As tempers began running high and the Telanganites kept shouting high pitched slogans, the police, sensing that the situation was getting out of control, tried to escort Jayaprakash Narayan back into the AP Bhavan.
As the T-activists were many and kept moving close to Jayaparakash Narayan, the police found it difficult to make way for him to move forward.
At one stage, a T-activist managed to get close to Jayaprakash Narayan and pulled him forward by catching hold of his neck tie. The police by then surrounded him in a security ring and helped him move, while warding off the T-activists.
Earlier, Jayprakash Narayan said that the Centre, after acknowledging the suggestions made by this party for solving the bifurcation problem, was in reality not doing much in that direction.
'What is needed now is that the people of Seemandhra should get a feeling that the future would be better than the present after bifurcation, and to this effect, the Centre should make an assurance to them,' he said.
Meanwhile, TJAC chairman Prof M Kodandaram advised the T-activists not be overcome by emotion. He expressed regret over the incident.
