Kavuri bats for Rayala Telangana HYDERABAD: Union minister for textiles Kavuri Sambasiva Rao said he might support state bifurcation, provided his three amendments to the state bifurcation bill are accepted. However, bifurcation will not augur well for the state or the country.
He was speaking to mediapersons at his residence in Delhi, after a meeting with Congress MPs from Seemandhra.
Kavuri's three demands are: Merge Kurnool and Anantapur districts with Telangana state, give Bhadrachalam to the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh and make Hyderabad a Union Territory for a period of not less than 10 years.
The veteran Parliamentarian from Eluru claimed that there is no truth in reports that the Central government is hell-bent on dividing Andhra Pradesh.
He wondered why the Centre would even consider introducing the bifurcation bill in Parliament when the state Assembly had rejected it. He had been opposing bifurcation even before the CWC had taken a decision in favour of it, he said, adding he also opposed it when the issue was discussed as a table item and not as an item on the agenda at the Union Cabinet meeting which had okayed the CWC decision.
Kavuri also wondered how they can agreed to the bill when Telangana leaders are against any amendment to the bill. If the Centre goes against the wishes of Seemandhra people, they will oppose it, he said.
