Medico ends life, blames college management Kakinada: A second year MBBS student, Merla Srilakshmi, allegedly committed suicide by hanging at her residence in Gandhinagar here on Friday. The radiology medico's desperate action followed alleged harassment by a fellow student, a professor and a director of the private G S L medical college at Rajanagar in East Godavari district.
The daughter of Bhavani Sankar Prasad and Jayakumari of Velangi village, in Karapa mandal, Srilakshmi was a meritorious student, whose academic excellence was reportedly resented by fellow-student Maitry, daughter of the director, who allegedly resorted to harassment.
Unable to withstand the harassment, Srilakshmi decided to discontinue the study and applied for TC. The college management refused to issue TC for two months, during which period she did not attend college. In frustration, the medico ended her life on Friday by hanging from a ceiling fan, using her `chunni'.
Following the parents' complaint, police recovered Srilakshmi's suicide note and took up investigation. The victim's father demanded action against Prof Mishna and Maitry, both of whom have been named in the suicide note.
