Cong keen to avoid legal tangles on T Hyderabad: Anticipating the legal cases that may arise once the AP Reorganisation Bill is passed in Parliament, the Centre is making all efforts to see that it does not come under any legal hurdles.
For that, Union Minister for Science and Technology S Jaipal Reddy was entrusted with the job to follow the procedures in passing the Bill and give suggestions whenever and whatever were needed to complete the process to the Union Ministers Sushilkumar Shinde, Kamal Nath and P Chidambaram, who were looking after the Bill.
The managers of the Bill had already smelled that the rebel Congress MPs would knock the doors of Apex Court opposing it. Sources close to Jaipal Reddy said that AICC president Sonia Gandhi herself had been calling him daily on the pros and cons of taking up the AP Reorganisation Bill.
'She is determined to get the Bill passed in Parliament and not to give any scope for any legal issues in the Supreme Court,' the source added.
Jaipal Reddy stated that the AICC chief had made it clear that the party was not worried about the possible negative impact in Seemandhra region.
He said the Centre was ready to see that the gazette notification was issued within 24 hours of passing the Bill, he added.
Sources said that the Centre was also examining the possibility to postponing Assembly elections to the two proposed States (Telangana and residuary state of Andhra Pradesh) after passing the Bill in Parliament.
The necessary items for the settling of all the issues between the two States would be added in the annexure to the Bill, the source added.
