Upset Telangana BJP leaders 'threaten' to quit party HYDERABAD: Peeved over reports that the BJP central leadership is having second thought over supporting the T-bill, party leaders from Telangana have threatened to quit and stay away from ensuing polls if BJP does not back the bill. They met at party state office here on Sunday.
BJP general secretary P Muralidhar Rao, state president G Kishan Reddy, and leaders Bandaru Dattatraya, Ch Vidyasagar Rao, N Indrasena Reddy, Seshagiri Rao, Rajeshwar Rao and others attended the meeting.
Muralidhar Rao, speaking to reporters, reiterated the party's commitment to Telangana statehood and said the BJP will support the T-bill. He blamed the Congress for the uncertainty on over the issue and urged it to cooperate in passing the bill.
According to sources, the BJP Telangana leaders are upset with senior leaders making conflicting statements on the T-issue. They felt that the party was sending a wrong message to the people of Telangana.
Having backed creation of Telangana state for several years, they felt that by making anti-Telangana statements at this juncture, the party was losing ground in a region where it has the potential to grow.
They feel that the party, which has good chances of winning seats in Telangana in the event of state division, in the ensuing elections, may lose out if it does not support the bill.
'We will be finished in Telangana. People will not believe us and it will be very difficult for party leaders to face the people if our party leadership makes a U-turn,' said a senior leader.
