Ministers, MPs and MLAs looking to join Kiran Party KURNOOL: While some state ministers and Congress MPs and MLAs from Kurnool district have been toying with the idea of defecting to either the TDP or the YSRC in the wake of bifurcation of the State, some others are now reportedly adopting a wait-and-watch policy to see if the chief minister will actually float the Samaikyandhra party.
While minor irrigation minister TG Venkatesh has been openely expressing his desire to quit the Congress for quite some time now in protest against Centre's move to bifurcate the state and form the Telangana State.
Union minister of state for railway K Surya Prakash Reddy too has come out in the open in this regard stating that it was difficult for him to continue in the party unless the Congress high command gave up its efforts to bifurcate the state.
However, other ministers are reported to have expressed similar feelings only in private meetings. All the disgruntled ministers and Congress MLAs are reportedly waiting for the outcome of the Lok Sabha meeting on Monday to decide on their future course of action.
As some of these leaders had met senior leaders of both the TDP and the YSRC recently and even discussed the Assembly and LS seats of their choice, the two parties are said to be keen to 'net' as many Congress leaders as possible ahead of the forthcoming General and Assembly elections.
Kurnool has 14 Assembly constituencies, of which eight are represented by Congress MLAs and three each by the TDP and the YSRC MLAs. There are two LS constituencies in the district and both are represented by the Congress--SPY Reddy (Nandyal) and Kotla Surya Prakash Reddy (Kurnool).
It remains to be seen how many ministers and MLAs will defect and to which party and how many others will remain in the Congress after the passage of the T Bill by Parliament in the next few days.
