Hyderabad Metro corridor ready by next Ugadi Hyderabad: The Second Stage of Corridor-I of Metro Rail would be completed by August and the SR Nagar-Miyapur segment would be thrown open as Independence Day gift to denizens of the city, Hyderabad Metro Rail MD NVS Reddy said.
The Metro Rail MD, along with key officials, visited the Bharatnagar-Moosapet stretch of the Metro worksite. After inspection, Reddy said that the works were going on at a brisk pace and that preparations were on to inaugurate the Nagole-Mettuguda corridor by Ugadi next year, with the trial runs scheduled for August.
The MD of HMR mentioned that, except for Bharatnagar-Moosapet, works were going on in eight stations under Stage II. The designs of these two stations would be modified in accordance with the available land.
At Bharatnagar, sewer lines and giant electrical lines were made to run underground, while at Moosapet additional road was laid. Similarly, sewer lines coming from IDL lake had been made to run underground.
Reddy said that for tracks near the Bharatnagar railway bridge, the balancing cantilever method was used. The route had five tracks and the HMR would construct RoB at a height of 11 metres.
Leaving out the railway station land, pillars would be constructed on either side of the station. The distance between two pillars would be 65 meters, he added.
'The laying of tracks at places like this is a challenge for HMR,' said Reddy. Normally, on the Metro route, the distance between two pillars would be 31 m; near stations, it would be 13.5 metres at few places and 17 metres at other places where it would not be a difficult task to lay viaducts.
However, in this case, the viaducts were attached from two opposite directions in balancing form. By doing like this the weight would not be loaded at one side, said Reddy.
He said that there was a 25 kW power station between the railway track and, without causing inconvenience to the railway lines, the works were taken up in balancing cantilever form. For the benefit of passengers, HMR would construct a skywalk from Bharatnagar Metro station to MMTS station, Reddy added.
