Kiran to put in his papers tomorrow HYDERABAD: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, considered the star batsman of Seemandhra Congress, is all set to put in his papers Wednesday. He is expected to meet Governor Narasimhan today, but later on changed his mind and decided to defer his plans for tomorrow.
However, his 'much-awaited' resignation is more or less turning out to be a non-event for the simple reason that his exit makes no real difference at this last stage in the Telangana process.
Kiran has already sought an appointment with Governor ESL Narasimhan Wednesday morning to handover his resignation to him and also announced a press meet post Governor's meeting.
In any case, the action has now shifted to Delhi for good. According to sources, the Chief Minister will most likely resign Wednesday morning when the T Bill might just be passed in the Lok Sabha.
Interestingly, the Chief Minister was busy as a bee for the last two days. He filled key vacancies in the government and gave plum posts to some officials in his office.
Even as Kiran continued his spree of appointing/promoting yes-men to key posts, PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana dashed off a letter to him questioning his actions, in particular rewarding loyalists ' M Ranga Reddy and Reddepa Reddy ' by making them whips of the party in the Legislative Council.
Led by Botcha, Seemandhra leaders, loyal to the Congress, fired salvos against Kiran for deciding to float a party. Their blitzkrieg began Monday morning with minister Kondru Murali Mohan.
Murali Mohan said, 'Kiran is trying to float a new party after enjoying power all these years in Congress. Even if Kiran floats a new party, no Congress leader will join it.' Incidentally, Murali Mohan was considered a close aide of the Chief Minister till recently.
Soon after, some other ministers from the weaker sections such as P Bala Raju, Dokka Manikya Vara Prasada Rao and C Ramachandraiah too joined chorus with Murali Mohan and lambasted their boss, predicting doom for his yet to be born party.
Accusing Kiran of using the Samaikyandhra sentiment to cover up his failures and corruption, Ramachandraiah said, 'There is no difference between Kiran and YSRC chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. While Jagan uses public sympathy generated after his father's death for political gains, Kiran is using Samaikyandhra sentiment for his selfish political ends.'
As soon as TV channels started airing Kiran's resignation plans, Botcha held 'Save Congress' meeting at his residence with party loyalists. Ministers such as Kanna Lakshminarayana, Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, N Raghuveera Reddy, Dokka, Bala Raju, Murali Mohan and others took part in the meeting, during which they decided to protect the party from poaching by Kiran.
According to sources, during the meeting, Botcha reportedly rang up many of his colleagues from Seemandhra and requested them not to join Kiran's proposed party. For instance, he called his ministerial colleagues Md Ahmadullah, Thota Narasimham and some others and requested them not go with Kiran's party.
Later, speaking to reporters, Botcha made light of Kiran Reddy's proposed resignation, saying, 'That is not an issue now. Had we resigned six months ago, the situation would have been different now.'
Indirectly attacking the Chief minister's plans to float a party, Botcha said it was no proper for anybody to desert the Congress when the party was facing difficult times. 'I request all Congress men whether Chief minister or party worker not to leave the party at this hour of crisis,' he said.
