Opposition challenges Naidu's moves on Capital
HYDERABAD: For the first time after elections, the YSRC, Congress and the CPI spoke in one voice and issued a stern warning to the ruling TDP in Andhra Pradesh not to take a unilateral decision on the crucial State capital question.
Ahead of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's reported decision to table the Sivaramakrishnan Committee's report in the State Assembly on Thursday, his government's proposal to locate the new capital between Vijayawada-Guntur generated heat both inside and outside the Assembly.
If Leader of the Opposition and YSRC chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy tried to corner the treasury benches on the floor of the House, APCC chief N Raghuveera Reddy and CPI State secretary K Ramakrishna stepped up their attack on the TDP over the same outside the Assembly.
Jagan and his MLAs tried to stall the proceedings in the House, insisting on a debate on the new capital.
Stating that he had no objection to locate the new capital anywhere in the State including Krishna and Guntur districts, Jagan wanted the government to thoroughly debate the issue in the Assembly. However, the combative Jagan had to face the wrath of Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao, who made it clear to him that he cannot dictate terms to the House.
