KCR to build bridges with Modi Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao is going to make a strong case for granting special status to the new State during his two-day visit to New Delhi.
The Chief Minister left for the national capital on Friday evening. KCR is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 11 am on Saturday and then follow it up with meeting other ministers during the day. This will be the first one-on-one meeting between KCR and Modi after the formation of Telangana State.
The Chief Minister would also seek funds for various projects and take up some pending issues with the Centre. The meeting comes in the backdrop of reports of friction between the TRS government and the Centre over a plethora of issues including power sector management.
There is a general public perception that the TRS leadership has been on a collision course with the NDA government. As a result, the State government has failed to get the sops being announced by the Centre.
Official sources said that the State government had written about 14 letters to the Centre on various issues but had not got any positive response. The Chief Minister would now directly pursue them with the Prime Minister.
The State government is seeking special status for Telangana and extension of all the incentives to the State that are being given to residuary Andhra Pradesh.
The Chief Minister would explain to Modi and other Central Ministers that eight out of the 10 districts in Telangana were backward and special grants were needed for their development.
The government is demanding national project status to Pranahitha-Chevella project which can irrigate about 16 lakh acres. The Chief Minister would press for incentives to industries in Telangana on the lines of the ones given to Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
KCR would stress on the need to expedite works for setting up of 4,000 MW power plant in the State, as mentioned in the AP Re-organization Act and for coal linkage for the project.
The State government would request the Centre for setting up separate High Court for Telangana, besides horticulture and tribal universities. It would demand the Centre to keep its word on granting Rs 15,000 crore for construction of roads in the backward regions, funds for cleaning Musi River on the lines of Sabarmathi River of Gujarath, which was given Rs 923 crore.
The Chief Minister would also urge Modi to take steps to develop Hyderabad into a world class city and help in making it slum free.
Funds will also be sought for development of roads to an extent of 4,207 km in the State. The setting up steel factory in Khammam district, railway coach factory and goods wagon production centre at Kazipet and railway division for Kazipet would be among the other demands to be put forward by the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister would seek clearance of all pending railway projects and Rs 1,104 crore from Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management Planning Authority (CAFMPA), which was lying with the Centre. He would urge the PM to release 30 per cent of those funds to Telangana.
