Modi preaches about brotherhood to KCR New Delhi: In a bid to mend fences and establish cordial relations with the Centre, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday morning and pushed his demand for special status for Telangana.
KCR, who had been seeking appointment with the PM for quite some time, said special status would help them the State grow faster. While the PM did not respond to the demand, he did assure that the Centre would ensure that work on the recent announcements like the horticulture university, a thermal power plant, Bayyaram Steel Plant and a solar power unit would be expedited.
The PM in return discussed the apprehensions raised in some quarters regarding the motive of the survey. He stressed upon the Telangana CM that it would be his responsibility to ensure that there was peace in Hyderabad among natives of the twin States.
The Prime Minister was clear that the brotherhood of Telugu people must be maintained at all costs. KCR, in turn, claimed he had already taken the initiative by meeting the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on August 15 to resolve pending issues.
KCR later met Union Minister for Power Peeyush Goyal. The two leaders discussed the about the 1380 mw NTPC plant in Telangana and another 100-watt solar power plant in Mahbubnagar. plant in Mahbubnagar.
Goyal has assured the Telangana government work on the thermal plant would begin as soon as possible. KCR and Goyal also discussed a plan to ensure 24/7 power supply to the people.
Goyal had recently announced that a plan for round the clock power had been worked out for Andhra Pradesh. He had accused the Telangana government of not being active enough in solving his power issues.
In another significant meet, KCR had a discussion with Union Law Minister Ravishankar Prasad. KCR raised the issue of excessive work load in the High Court and demanded a separate High Court for Andhra Pradesh immediately.
KCR also suggested that he could provide space for the new HC within the present premises. KCR is likely to meet Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh when he returns from J&K on Sunday.
