KCR re-assures Muslims over 12% reservation
Hyderabad, Nov 28 (INN): Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Friday re-assured the Muslims of Telangana that his government would implement the promise of giving 12 per cent reservation to the community in jobs and education institutions.
Replying to the issues raised by Congress MLC Mohammed Ali Shabbir in the State Legislative Council during the debate on Appropriation Bill 2014-15, the Chief Minister informed the House that a report on the socio-economic conditions of the Muslims is being prepared and the same would be table in the State legislature.
He said that a separate legislation would be enacted on the Muslim reservation and then the Centre would be approached for help. He assured the House proposed 12 per cent reservation for Muslims would not face any legal hurdles as the State Government proposed to provide the quota on the lines of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
Earlier, speaking on the Bill, Shabbir Ali pointed out that of Rs 1,030 crore allocated for the Minorities' Welfare, only Rs 112 crore have been released so far. He sought an assurance from the Chief Minister that remaining amount would be spent in the same financial year.
In response, KCR assured that the budget for minorities' welfare would not lapse and the unspent amount would be carried forward in the next financial year.
Shabbir Ali also demanded special legislation to make Telangana youth stakeholders in the industrialisation of State. He said the local youth should gain out of the industrialisation process. Else, he said that the Telangana resources, which were earlier encroached upon by Seemandhra leaders, would be taken away by big industries.
The Chief Minister said that no such legislation could be introduced although steps would be taken to ensure that local youth get jobs and other opportunities. He also defended the decision to derecognise 174 engineering colleges for lack of basic infrastructure and faculty.
He said that the Telangana Government wishes to improve the quality of engineers and other professionals being produced by State's institution. He said that the previous glory of Osmania University would be restored and all pass-outs from Telangana State should be held in high esteem.
