TDP membership drive gets poor response in Telangana
HYDERABAD: Alarm bells seem to have begun ringing in the TDP in Telangana state, which was its traditional stronghold prior to bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
Despite AP chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu's efforts to instil confidence among party leaders and cadres in Telangana by saying that he would transform the yellow party into a national party, the party appears to be failing to attract new workers into its fold in the state if the ongoing membership drive of the party is any yardstick for this.
According to sources, during the ongoing membership drive in Telangana and AP, the party is receiving 'poor response' in Telangana whereas it is witnessing overwhelming reaction in AP.
Though the party had set a target of enrolling six lakh active members this time in Telangana, the party has so far been able to admit only three lakh members into its fold.
'Though we have set a target of six lakh active members in Telangana, we have so far succeeded in driving only three lakh members into the party,' said a senior TDP leader from Telangana.
According to him, the party membership drive is receiving good response in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area whereas it is getting poor response in other districts of Telangana, particularly northern districts of the state.
On the other hand, in AP, where the party is in power, ongoing membership drive is receiving tremendous response.
The party has set a target of enrolling as many as 20 lakh active members in AP this time. So far, the party has been able to register 16 lakh active members in the reorganised state.
