Polavaram Project in three years: Venkaiah VIJAYAWADA: Reiterating the government's commitment to complete the Polavaram project on time, Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said the multi-purpose project will be completed in three-and-a-half years.
Addressing a gathering after releasing a book written by Professor SV Seshagiri Rao on the Polavaram project here, he said Telangana State will not suffer any loss in terms of water share as the project, which is considered the lifeline of Andhra Pradesh, needs only 300 TMC of water out of the 2,500 TMC, which is flowing into the ocean.
'Though the plan for the Polavaram project has been devised way back in 1942, it was delayed due to various reasons. Now that the dream of the State has come true, measures will be taken to expedite the project,' the Minister said.
The Minister said: 'As a majority of the people in Andhra Pradesh are dependant on agriculture, there is a greater need for such projects across the State'. He appreciated Seshagiri Rao for his efforts to pen the book and said that the book would clear misconceptions regarding the multi-purpose project.
Professor Seshagiri Rao said that the book was penned to create awareness among the people regarding the advantages of Polavaram project and stress the point that not only Andhra Pradesh, but Odisha will also be benefited.
