Student killed in class room over a scuffle

HYDERABAD: In a shocking incident, a scuffle between senior and junior students over teasing a girl in a city college led to the death of the junior inside the classroom. The incident took place at Pragati Maha Vidyalaya Degree College in Sultan Bazar on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Harshvardhan Rao, a second year BCom student.

The accused was identified as Satish Kodkar, a final year student. According to police, the scuffle broke out during the lunch hour when Harshvardhan raised objection to Satish's behaviour towards girls of his class.

'Satish was teasing a girl and Harshvardhan objected to that. A while later, Sathish came to Harshvardhan's classroom which led to a heated argument. Satish delivered a blow to Harshvardhan's cheek. He fell down with his head hitting the bench,' said Ravula Giridhar, ACP, Sultan Bazar.

He ruled out possible enmity between the duo and clarified that the incident was not a fallout of ragging or a love-related conflict.

Explaining further, Sultan Bazar Station House Officer G Srinivas said: 'Harshvardhan was unconscious from the moment he fell down at around 12.30 pm. He was taken to a nearby clinic and then to Care Hospital, Nampally, where he was declared dead.' The body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital for post-mortem.

Based on a complaint from father KS Narsing Rao, a case of murder has been registered against Satish. Controlling his tears, Narsing Rao said, 'My son was very matured for his age. He used to work at a pharmacy in Hyderguda in the afternoon and at the same time, was very popular in the college. He was Mr Fresher last year.'

A close friend of Harshvardhan for several years, Ankit, who is also a senior in college, said: 'A few girls were inside the class when Satish went there. Suddenly, we saw them crying and running out of the class.

Harshvardhan was lying unconscious on the ground. His heart was still beating but in the hospital doctors said he had a blood clot inside the brain and died.'

Principal of the college TV Rao said, 'During lunch time, two students entered into a fight and one of them had died. Reasons are unknown. No teacher was present at the time as it was a lunch break.'
