Japan help in building AP capital city HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who had asked the Singapore government to prepare the blueprint for the new capital city of the reorganised State, is planning to take the help of Japanese government, along with private companies in that country, in setting up ultra-modern infrastructure in the new capital.
As Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) promised him during his recent visit there to help AP in inter-city connectivity, water treatment in urban areas and funding Japanese private companies interested in investing in AP, Naidu is understood to be of the view that he can borrow the technical expertise of Japanese companies in laying six-lane roads, construction of skyways and building skyscrapers in the capital.
According to sources, Singapore government will prepare the blueprint for the capital by the end of December or the first week of January. Executive director of Singapore's Centre for Liveable Cities (CLC), which looks after urban development in the island nation, Khoo Teng Chye is expected to arrive in Hyderabad on December 9 for a three-day visit to the State. Singapore government recently appointed Khoo as its nominee for the project to design the capital city of AP.
'During Khoo's visit, the new capital's blueprint will be discussed thoroughly,' said sources. After this, Naidu will identify the areas in which Japan can lend its technical expertise in construction.
Sources said that based on the priorities set by Naidu, a team of investors, designers and representatives of the Japanese government would come to Hyderabad to hold talks with the AP Chief Minister to identify the areas where they can invest and lend their support to the State. 'This would happen in the second week of January,' said sources.
Sources added that once Japanese investors visit the State, the State government will begin work on setting up a 'special desk' for Japanese investors, with Japanese- speaking officials, in the CMO, to expedite clearances for new industries.
Naidu, who appears to have succeeded in convincing Isuzu motors to set up another plant in Sri City in Chittoor district, is confident that Japanese firms such as Hitachi, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), Iseki and other companies will also come forward to invest in AP in the coming days.
