TS Govt neglecting higher education: OUTA Hyderabad, Dec 4 (INN): The Osmania University Teachers Association (OUTA) has accused the Telangana Government of completely neglecting the higher education in the State.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, OUTA President Prof B Satyanarayana said that several streams in the higher sector, especially the Arts and Social Sciences, have been ignored by the government.
The State Government is not providing adequate funds or facilities to the universities to improve the standard of education. Instead, the government is asking the universities to generate its own resources. He said that this move would lead to commercialisation of higher education.
Prof Satyanarayana pointed out the post of OU's Vice-Chancellor has been lying vacant and no steps have been taken by the government to fill the post. Several projects of OU are at halt due to the absence of a full-fledged Vice-Chancellor.
He said that if the Telangana Government was really serious in retaining the stand of Osmania University, then it should take immediate steps to fill the vacant posts, increase funding and provide other facilities. He also asked the government to stop its interference in the affairs of Osmania University.
