Blueprint for capital in six months HYDERABAD: Taking forward his ambitious plan to build a world class greenfield and riverfront capital for Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, announced that the Master Plan for the capital city would be ready within six months.
The AP government and Singapore government signed an MoU in the presence of Naidu and Second Minister for Trade and Industry of Singapore S Eswaran at the Secretariat here. Later, addressing a joint press conference with Eswaran, Naidu said the work on the preparation of Master Plan and other preparatory works for building of the new capital would commence on Tuesday.
Giving details of the Master Plan, Naidu said initially two kinds of Master Plans would be prepared, one general plan and another for core capital area, which will spread across eight square km. He added that the core capital area would be extended as per the need and necessary changes would be done according to the situation.
Stating that he wants to complete the first phase of the capital city by next elections, Naidu said, 'A high-level committee would be constituted with myself and Eswaran as co-chairpersons to oversee the works of capital building. And if necessary a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) would be created to implement the project in a time-bound manner'.
He said very soon a working group would also be constituted between AP and Singapore governments to monitor the day-to-day progress of the work. Eswaran said that his government would not try to impose Singapore model on AP while designing the Master Plan. 'We would see that the Master Plan is prepared in such a way that it would reflect the culture and ethos of AP,' he said.
Stating that it had worked on such project in China and Vietnam, Eswaran said his country would see that all the aspects of world class city is taken care while preparing the Master Plan.
He said Singapore would provide training to AP officials on city planning and infrastructure for better implementation of the Master Plan. 'Singapore officials are already working with about 30 AP officials on the project,' he added.
