TDP, BJP rejects Vinayak Sagar proposal Hyderabad, Dec 9 (INN): While announcing their full support for the move to clean Hussainsagar lake, the TDP and BJP have rejected the proposal to construct Vinayak Sagar near Indira Park for the immersion of Ganesh idols.
Speaking to media persons after the All Party meeting here on Tuesday, TDP leader Errabelli Dayakar Rao said that proposal to construct Vinayak Sagar was not viable. He contended that the immersion of Ganesh idols was not causing pollution to the Hussainsagar as entire debris could be taken out from the lake within 10 days after immersion. He said that the governemnt should focus on stop the entry of other pollutants into the lake.
Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy out rightly rejected the proposal and said that the immersion of Ganesh idols would continue in Hussainsagar. He said thousands of people gather around Hussainsagar for the Ganesh festival and the proposed Vinayak Sagar was too small to accommodate so many idols and crowds. He also urged the government to take Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsava Samithi into confidence before taking any decision.
While welcoming the government's decision to clean Hussainsagar, MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi suggested that the government should de-centralise immersion of Ganesh idols. He also opposed the proposal to divert four nalas falling into Hussainsagar.
He said the government should ensure that the pollutants get treated before they are diverted to other areas. Further, permanent diversion would deprive Hussiansagar of its inflows.
He claimed that the Hussainsagar has been shrinked by almost one-fifth due to regular encroachments for the establishment of various recreational centres. Therefore, government should ensure more lung space and greenary before taking up the project of skyscraper zone.
