Elevated roadways to connect Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: The proposed plans of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for construction of elevated corridors in some of the highly congested roads in Hyderabad for a hassle-free traffic movement is going to materialise soon.
The transport and roads and buildings departments will engage consultants for taking up feasibility studies and preparation of detailed project reports for construction of two elevated corridors (1) Paradise Junction to Outer Ring road on Rajiv Rahadari and (2) Balanagar to ORR on Hyderabad-Narsapur-Medak Road.
The R&B will call for bids from reputed consultants for taking up feasibility studies and preparation of DPRs for construction of elevated corridors in congested areas and to widen the existing carriageway to six lanes along with two-lane service road on either side wherever required right of way (ROW) is available for above roads.
The government accorded the administrative sanction for Rs 3.75 crore to Paradise junction to ORR on Rajiv Rahadari (20 km, approximately 50 per cent elevated and 50 per cent improvements at ground level) and Rs 2.25 crore for Balanagar to ORR section of Hyderabad-Narsapur-Medak Road (20 km, approximately 30 per cent elevated and 70 per cent improvements at ground level).
The R&B has proposed to give six months for the consultants to prepare DPRs as the said two corridors pass through urban areas where a detailed traffic studies, sub-soil investigation, details of utilities above ground, below the ground, RoW availability etc, are to be carried out meticulously to finalise the DPR.
For finalising the consultants, the government has constituted a committee consisting of engineer-in-chief (R&B) and others.
Meanwhile, the government has also accorded administrative sanction for Rs 22 crore for engaging six to seven consultancies for detailed investigation, preparation of estimates and drawings ie to prepare DPRs to expedite the grounding process of road widening works in districts.
The government has already sanctioned 143 works of widening of roads from single lane to double lane from mandal headquarters to district headquarters in 149 mandals costing Rs 2,585 crore.
