Naidu allays fears of Thullur farmers
Vijayawada, December 13: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu asserted that the native people of Thullur and other villages in the Capital region would be the first beneficiaries of development that was bound to take place in the near future.
A lot of people will migrate from outside but the government would pass on the benefits to locals first. For that purpose, data is being gathered on the basis of Aadhar, he told a small gathering of farmers and general public at the State guesthouse here on Saturday.
On the occasion, Naidu reiterated that injustice would not be done to farmers and cautioned them against the machinations of opposition parties which were politicising the issue. He believed that the region spanning Vijayawada, Guntur, Tenali and Mangalagiri was the best choice for Capital though government land was available at other places.
He said Capital could be built between Kalyani dam and Tirupati in his native district (Chittoor) but he was not craving for personal benefits. 'I understand the pain some farmers might be undergoing to part with their lands but I can say with confidence that such people will repent later for not making the sacrifice at this historic moment', Naidu said.
The Chief Minister went on to say that bifurcation was a blessing in disguise and construction of Capital was a life-time opportunity which people of the region should not fritter away. 'The new Capital will go down in history as one of the world's best', he affirmed.
Singapore, he said, was chosen for drawing the master plan for Capital as it has rich experience in making the most of available resources. The city-state has an excellent track record of creating top class infrastructure and Andhra Pradesh required such facilities to attract investments and make the Capital a model for others.
Rather than appointing a consultant, it was considered prudent to rope in Singapore with which India has cordial relations, for building the Capital to global standards, Naidu added.
Earlier, some farmers who came from Thullur demanded that they should be given a better package for their lands and the Chief Minister said their concerns would be duly looked into. There were also farmers who felicitated the Chief Minister for choosing their area as the Capital and announcing a good package for them.
