KCR comforts miffed Koppula Eswar KARIMNAGAR/HYDERABAD: Rumblings of discontent began in the TRS, a day after Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao announced his intention to induct at least six new faces into his Cabinet, with Koppula Eswar, MLA from Dharmapuri, making his frustration clear at being overlooked.
KCR is considering Eswar for the post of the government chief whip but the latter has set his sights on the cabinet. Though he hasn't said so publicly, his supporters took to the streets even as senior leaders swung into action to mollify him. Eswar, an SC leader elected twice on TRS ticket, had been pinning his hopes on the first cabinet expansion by KCR scheduled Tuesday.
Sources said he had sent an SMS to KCR's PA stating that he was upset. Later in the evening, KCR himself called up Eswar and promised to do him justice. Earlier, Eswar's followers staged a rasta roko in Dharmapuri demanding that he be given an appropriate place in the cabinet.
A couple of them even tried self-immolation but police intervened in time and took the duo into custody. Mala Mahanadu activists also descended on Eswar's residence in Karimnagar and urged him not to accept the chief whip post.
Eswar himself remained tight-lipped. 'I neither accepted nor rejected the chief whip post. I won as MLA thrice in general elections and twice in bypolls,' he said hinting at his strength. After receiving the call from KCR, he left for Hyderabad.
