Assembly passes Capital Authority Bill Hyderabad, December 22: The Andhra Pradesh Assembly passed the AP Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) Bill, 2014 with a voice vote, amid stiff opposition from the lone Opposition, the YSRC.
The proposed legislation would give legal sanctity to the government's plans to procure land from the farmers of the villages earmarked for the construction of the new capital city by adopting land pooling system, besides allowing it to set up an 'omnipotent CRDA', which will oversee all activities related to the capital.
Earlier, chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, while reiterating that the Singapore government is preparing the master plan for the new capital free of cost, assured the farmers belonging to the capital region that their interests would be safeguarded on every aspect and the government would do everything in a transparent manner.
He made it clear that the existing shape of no village would be tampered with while constructing the capital. The state government would procure only the agricultural lands by giving suitable compensation to farmers, he added.
'As we cannot build the capital every time, we are taking all precautions to construct a world-class capital in between Vijayawada and Guntur. The government is offering best compensatory package for the farmers while procuring lands for capital,' Naidu said.
