HC remarks on farm suicides should awaken TRS Govt: TDP Hyderabad, Dec 23 (INN): The Telugu Desam Party on Tuesday demanded that TRS Government take immediate steps to prevent suicide by farmers and help the families of those who ended their lives.
Speaking to media persons in Assembly premises here, Telangana TDP leader Errabelli Dayakara Rao said that the remarks of Hyderabad High Court asking the State Government to focus on farmers and not start should awaken the TRS leaders from their slumber.
He said that the High Court's observations were quite serious in nature and the government should take immediate measures to rectify its mistakes. He said while more than 320 farmers committed suicide in the last six months, the State Government has put the figure at 69. He demanded that the government change its adamant attitude and accept the reality.
Errabelli said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao did not even visit the house of a single farmer who committed suicide due to State Government's failure to waive off crop loan and supply proper power.
He said that the previous Congress regime led by Dr YS Rajashekara Reddy paid Rs 1.5 lakh ex-gratia to the families of farmers who committed suicide. He said in view of rising inflation, the State Government should pay Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia to all those families.
The TDP leader alleged that KCR was still misleading the farmers on the power supply position. He said preventive steps should be taken to prevent suicides in case of failure of Rabi crop. He advised KCR to maintain friendly relationship with the neighbouring States, including Andhra Pradesh, so as to take power supply from them, whenever needed.
He demanded that the Chief Minister lead an all-party delegation to the Centre on the farmers' suicide issue. He said that the TDP was willing to cooperate with the State Government in the interest of Telangana State.
