MPs meet Defence Minister over closure of Army roads Hyderabad, Dec 23 (INN): Cutting across party lines, the Lok Sabha MPs on Tuesday met Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar requesting him to postpone the Army restrictions on AOC roads from January 1.
A delegation comprising MPs Ch Malla Reddy, B Vinod Kumar, Jitender Reddy, Visweswar Reddy and Patil and Malkajgiri MLA C Kanaka Reddy and Gundu Sudha Rani called on Parrikar in the Parliament House in New Delhi and submitted a petition signed by 16 MPs including K Kavitha and others.
The Resident Welfare Association Of Malkajgiri B T Srinivasan, B A Pramod Kumar and Kannamalla Nagaraj along with the above said members of Parliament submitted the alternative road plan and requested the Defence Minister along with Minister of State for Defence Rao Indrajit Singh and HRD Minister Venkaiah Naidu to instruct the Army, not to impose any restrictions till the alternative roads are ready.
The Defence Minister assured that he would speak to concern Defence officials to postpone the army road closure for six months and a committee would study the alternative roads plan.
