Task Force to protect Red Sanders Hyderabad, Dec 23 (INN): Chief Secretary IYR Krishna Rao said that the Task Force Committee formation is at the final stage and necessary Rules are approved and orders will be issued in a day or two.
While reviewing the progress in implementation of the protection of Red Sander' with the officials of Forest and Police departments, the Chief Secretary directed the Director General of Police and Prl.CCF to ensure the Task Force Stationed with headquarters at Tirupathi to immediately curtail any further smuggling of this timber.
The Chief Secretary said that the quantities of Red Sanders seized have come down drastically and intensive operations are going on in Rayalaseema to apprehend the smugglers and some culprits were caught.
He further said that Police Department have also taken up a programme of stakeholders to tackle them for better coordination and implementation of protection of Red Sanders.
Chief Secretary added that Amendments to the Forest Act have already been approved in the Cabinet which needs to be sent to GoI before introducing the same in State Legislature.
CS directed the Prl.CCF to expedite the matter. He further instructed the forest department officials to examine the possibility of introducing night time drones or unmanned Aircrafts for surveillance.
Senior officials of Forest and Police department have attended the meeting.
